What "AI pricing" actually is
When you ask a chatbot or an online calculator "how much does a new AC cost?", it answers with a national average range pulled from published data. That's genuinely useful for setting expectations — and we publish honest ranges ourselves in our cost guides. But a range is not a quote. The price of your system depends on facts about your home that no general tool can see.
When online ranges are useful (and when they aren't)
Use AI and calculators for what they're good at:
- Understanding the factors that move price up or down.
- Sanity-checking whether a quote is in a believable range.
- Learning the vocabulary — SEER2, tonnage, Manual J — before you talk to a contractor.
Don't use them to:
- Budget your exact job — they don't know your ductwork, load, or local costs.
- Size your system — square-footage rules of thumb routinely get it wrong.
- Replace a real estimate — the only accurate number comes from seeing the home.
Why generic estimates miss (failure modes)
- They size by square footage. Correct capacity comes from a Manual J load calculation that accounts for insulation, windows, orientation, and air leakage — not floor area alone.
- They ignore your ductwork and electrical. Leaky or undersized ducts and panel upgrades change the job — and the price.
- They don't know local conditions. Labor, permits, and material costs vary by region and over time, including the 2025 refrigerant transition (R-454B / R-32). See our permits and code guide.
- They can't weigh trade-offs. A tool won't tell you a dual-fuel system or a ductless mini-split might fit your home better.
How a local estimate gets it right (the proof)
An accurate DuctPros estimate is built from things we measure in person: a Manual J load calculation for correct sizing, the real condition of your ductwork and electrical, the equipment and efficiency you choose, and current local labor and material costs. That's why our number is specific to your home — and why it's worth more than any chatbot range. As a locally owned Daikin Authorized Dealer with 50+ years of combined experience, a Kentucky HVAC license (#HM04747), and EPA Section 608-certified technicians, we put it in writing and explain every line.
