Your HVAC project planner

Planning a new HVAC system doesn't have to be overwhelming. This free planner walks you through it in order: confirm the problem, decide repair vs. replace, choose the right system, size it correctly, set a budget with rebates and financing, compare quotes fairly, and book the install. Work through it at your own pace — then get a free estimate to lock in the details.

The 7-step HVAC planning checklist

Follow these steps in order. Each one links to a deeper guide if you want to dig in — and you can stop any time and let us handle the rest with a free estimate.

  1. 1

    Confirm the problem

List the symptoms — weak airflow, warm air, noise, rising bills, or age. Not sure? Start with why your AC blows warm air.

  2. 2

    Decide: repair or replace

Weigh age, repair cost, and efficiency with our repair-or-replace guide.

  3. 3

    Choose the right system

Compare AC vs. heat pump, furnace vs. heat pump, and ductless vs. central — all in the Evaluate & Compare hub.

  4. 4

    Size it correctly

    Insist on a Manual J load calculation — never a square-footage guess.

  5. 5

    Set your budget

Review cost guides, then stack rebates & savings with financing.

  6. 6

    Compare quotes fairly

Compare what's included, not just price. Understand why online quotes mislead, and get a free 2nd opinion.

  7. 7

    Book the install

Confirm the plan with a free in-home estimate, then schedule with our licensed team. Get started.

HVAC project planning: FAQs

Common questions about timing, prep, and managing your project.

How far ahead should I plan an HVAC replacement?
If you can, plan in the shoulder seasons (spring or fall) rather than during a heat wave or cold snap, when systems fail most and schedules fill up. Starting a few weeks ahead gives you time to compare options, line up rebates and financing, and avoid an emergency rush. That said, if your system has already failed, we offer same-day service when our schedule allows.
What should I have ready for my free estimate?
It helps to know your home's approximate square footage, your current system's age and any recent repairs, your typical comfort complaints, and your heating fuel and rough energy costs. Don't worry if you don't have all of it — our technician measures what matters (including a Manual J load calculation) during the visit.
Do I have to replace everything at once?
Not always. Sometimes replacing one component (or pairing a new heat pump with a healthy existing furnace as a dual-fuel system) is the better value. Our planner and free estimate help you see which approach fits your home and budget without overspending.
